Social Enterprise

Our social enterprise is made up of two businesses: Better Health Bikes and Better Health Products Ltd.

We work with our hands and our work is our craft. From new and refurbished bicycles for sale to practical supplies for the healthcare industry, we aim to offer high quality products and services at good value for money - all made or built in house by our team of skilled mechanics with the assistance of trainees and volunteers.

As part of the Centre for Better Health, we focus on providing work skills training placements for those who have been distanced from employment due to mental ill health, while making and providing quality products and services for the local community. Our aim is to make these businesses commercially viable in order to develop the charity’s work.

As part of Hackney’s oldest and independent mental health charity, we have never wavered from our commitment to support individuals recovering from mental ill health. No bells and whistles here, just honest, friendly, fun human beings dedicated to creating a supportive environment whilst delivering products and services to our valued customers.

What trainees say about their placement

“I am so happy that a place like this exists! When I read about it on the internet it sounded too good to be true, but it really is such a friendly welcoming place that has helped me so much in my recovery. The rhythm of working and feeling useful of building/recycling things and the friendly people make it a really special place in the middle of a city that can feel very distant and inaccessible. Please keep up existing and helping more people find their feet. Also, Graham is the best.”

“Everyone was welcoming, friendly, supportive, and generous with sharing knowledge. I greatly appreciate the fact that Lisa would meet with me often to check how I am and to discuss next steps with me. I felt that you cared about what would happen after the scheme came to an end and that you want to help with maximising my prospects. ”
