Volunteer Counsellor

“I so enjoyed my time at the Centre, you were all incredibly supportive and enabling. The Centre is clearly driven by thoughtful, caring, and client focussed values and that then shows up in everything. And allows the trainees to not only do good work, but learn those values to take with them. I learnt a great deal from my time at the Centre and am very grateful to you all - particularly Penny for her diligent and continually supportive supervision.”

We run our affordable counselling service with a team of committed volunteer counsellors.

The Centre for Better Health offers well-regarded and sought-after placements to counsellors in training. We work with clients for up to a year so can provide trainee counsellors with valuable long-term work experience. We also work with a broad spectrum of mental health issues including the opportunity to work with complex cases once volunteers have gained sufficient experience. These placements offer students the opportunity to not only gain hours for their college requirements but to continue for accreditation.

In order to apply, you must be a qualified counsellor or at least in your second year of a professionally recognised counselling course. We particularly welcome applications from BME counsellors and counsellors with disabilities.

Please read the role description for further details. You can also click here to read about the experience of one our volunteer counsellors.

Volunteer Counselling Supervisor

In addition to placements for counsellors in training, we occasionally offer placements to individuals that are undertaking a recognised counselling supervision course. As a volunteer supervisor, you will provide 2-hour generic group supervision on a fortnightly basis. Working with a group of up to four counsellors in training, you will provide a supportive space in which supervisees can feel understood, supported and challenged as well as instructed and assisted in their counselling work. Please read the role description for further information, including on how to express interest.
